The Sun will Come Out – Tomorrow!

One of the things I’ve been hearing recently is that many of you are really looking forward to Spring and warmer weather. Me too! However, it seems many of you are waiting for the nicer temperatures to motivate you into being more active, and have been doing some hibernation until the sun comes out. So I have to ask:

What are you waiting for?!
When the weather is cold or rainy, it can affect our mood and make us feel just as dreary and lethargic. Fortunately, as many of you have experienced by now, being active not only helps you reach your weight loss goals, but also gives you more energy and stamina through the day! So rather than camp out on the couch and wait for perfect conditions, remind yourself that exercise will actually help you make it through the rainy days and schedule in more gym time. It might be hard to get there, but once you’re there you’ll feel the benefits almost immediately!

Bad weather too often pushes us indoors, which can mean less activity and more eating. It’s no wonder that about half of Americans gain up to 10 pounds during the winter months! So why are you waiting on the weather (which is NOT within your control – who knows when the sun will come out next!) to be more active? Keep your weight loss going and your energy levels up throughout the entire year. Here are some ideas for staying active even when the weather outside is bad:
– plan weekly workouts at the gym and schedule them into your calendar
– talk to your trainer about easy exercises you can do at home
– try walking in a public place, such as the local mall
– purchase exercise videos or active games for the Wii or Xbox (I hear Zumba and Just Dance are  popular!)

Don’t wait for the weather to break – break the power the weather has over you and get moving!

I agree completely, Jessica. The best thing to do for the snowy or rainy blues is to get moving. The first thing we think of when the weather is bad is going home and laying on the couch under a blanket. But how does that really make us feel?? I know that I feel tired and lazy. When I exercise however, I feel like a million bucks and then can really enjoy my relaxation in the evening knowing that I got a good workout in and can now listen peacefully to the rain on the roof!
