What is the best way to dress up your Thanksgiving turkey? By surrounding it with colorful and flavorful side dishes of course! What are your family’s favorite side dishes?

Sweet potato casserole? Green bean Casserole? Broccoli Casserole? Hmmmm…I am detecting a theme here. Why do we bury all of these beautiful, delicious vegetables in casseroles laden with fat, sugar, and countless calories? Why not change it up this year and make your vegetables and fruits the stars of the side dish show. Use simple but flavorful seasonings to enhance their natural goodness, and make them a nutrient rich addition to your Thanksgiving plate. Here are a few ideas to consider before doing your holiday food shopping this upcoming week. Be creative and surprise your family with something new!   • Roasted asparagus with garlic, cracked pepper and olive oil (see recipe link below)
  • Steamed baby carrots seasoned with a touch of brown sugar and spices (see recipe link for Glazed Orange Carrots below)
  • Baked, sliced sweet potatoes, apples and raisins cooked with apple cider and cinnamon
  • Steamed green peas and mushrooms with onion and garlic
  • Whole grain cranberry and apple stuffing (see recipe link below)
